Taking on new engagements
I build and maintain distributed databases. For the last decade my work has centred almost entirely on Apache Cassandra, as a core committer, a member of the project's Management Committee, and one of its most active contributors.
I work independently, taking engagements directly with the teams who need them, from a few days of review to long-running retained work.
Consulted for JP Morgan Chase, Capital One, Lombard Odier, Orange, Walmart and 11FS.
Work upstream alongside engineers at Apple, Netflix and IBM.
Author and shepherd of Cassandra Enhancement Proposals across storage, security and database management. Shipping releases on the 4.0 through 6.0 branches.
Partition and schema design, multi-datacentre topologies, capacity planning, failover strategy.
Backup and restore, version upgrades, and diagnosing clusters that misbehave under load. Change data capture, Cassandra Sidecar and Cassandra Analytics.
Authentication and authorization plugins, LDAP integration, encryption and access control for regulated environments.
